Every director, incorporator, and Person with Significant Control (PSC) must soon verify their identity and secure a Companies House personal code. Miss this step and you risk fines, missed filings, or even disqualification.

The Tightening Timeline
Voluntary checks began April 2025 via Gov.uk apps.
Mandatory from autumn 2025 for:
New directors
New incorporations
New PSCs
Transition ends autumn 2026 for all existing directors & PSCs.
This staged rollout ensures everyone links real identities to their filings, slashing fraud and boosting transparency.
Why You Can’t Ignore Identity Verification
Imagine a competitor fraudulently registering a shell company in your name. Without verified identities, Companies House records become easy prey. The Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 empowers Companies House to:
Demand proof of who’s really behind a company.
Strike off non-compliant entities faster.
Tackle fraud rings posing as legitimate directors.
What Your Personal Code Does
Uniquely ties your verified identity to every statutory filing.
Is valid across all your directorships and PSC roles.
Must appear on:
Confirmation statements
Director/PSC appointments
Any self-filing submissions
Treat it like a National Insurance number—secure and confidential, shared only with your trusted accountant or legal advisor.
How to Get and Use Your Code
Self-Service Options
Via an Authorised Corporate Service Provider
Face-to-face document validation
Electronic ID-check services
Upon approval, Companies House mails you an 11-character code (e.g., FT5-15ED-7JY5). Provide this each time you file.
